Lora-Marie Bernard is an award-winning journalist and cultural historian recognized by Texas A&M University's Texana Reads as one of Texas’s best storytellers. Her work explores how lives are shaped through place, memory, and identity.

A nationally recognized communicator, commentator, and journalist, she has received numerous Associated Press awards, including first place honors for investigative reporting. She has also been recognized with a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.

As a Harvard University graduate and a Smithsonian-trained culture historian, she brings both academic grounding and field-based insight to her work. Her perspective has also been shaped by her experience in restaurant operations, where she has worked across service and management roles. Together, the experiences inform her approach toward culture, food, travel and history.

She is the author of six books that explore Texas history and culture. Her upcoming work, Food Lovers Guide to New Orleans with White Owl, will be released in 2027.

Follow her journey on her new Substack publication Elsewhere Unseen: An Atlas of Travel, Memory, and Place
